Quarter 2!

Image
Quarter 2 is off to a strong start. We have been busy learning about new elements and doing our best to keep using our knowledge of the elements of art that we have already studied. Kindergarten has been studying contrasting colors, most specifically black and white. We read Kitten's First Full Moon and are working on drawing kitten and the moon. We are going to paint our pictures using black and white. We will then talk about value and mix different shades of grey to add a little extra detail to our pictures. In first grade we have moved on to texture. Texture is one of the hardest things for children to get. It takes time and patience. But your kids have been doing an exceptional job of exhibiting perseverance. We looked at Albrecht Durer's Hare . It shows great examples of texture using line and color. We drew a rabbit and are in the process of drawing and adding texture using line and color. In second grade we looked at the Parthenon and discussed the

The art room is a buzz with all kinds of excitement. We have just finished our first art lessons and are on to learning new things. In Kindergarten, we just finished our shapes and rocket ship drawings. It was pretty neat to see how capable your students are and I am excited for them to grow in all their artistic talents. We will be learning a little bit about the artist Henri Matisse. We are going to study his "The Goldfish." We are going to recreate it and get to use tempera paint. Silent Celebration!!! A sample of our rocket ship Matisse's The Goldfish    In First Grade, we are reviewing lines and the importance of lines in art. After all, without lines we wouldn't be able to draw. We will be working on Line Lions this week. We will be adding some crazy lines to our lions' manes. We just finished our cave man drawings and had some fun getting messy in the art room. Cave Drawing    In Second Grade, we finished our Blue Willow vase

Off to a great start!!!

For the first few weeks of the quarter, I will be assessing everyone's ability. I like to get a good idea of where we are starting so I can see where we are going. In kindergarten, I am looking to see how your child holds a pencil, understands lines and colors, and follows directions. We will be reading Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson. We will be using pre-cut shapes to create pictures. We will also be drawing a rocket ship using shapes and crayons. In First Grade, we jumped right into our Lascaux Cave drawings. I read The First Drawing by Mordicai Gerstein. It has stunning visuals and a fun description of what it might have been like to create the first drawing. We then created a story using pictures and images. We will be recreating an animal and finishing our project with paint and chalk pastels. In Second Grade, we are studying symmetry. The students have been drawing lines of symmetry on different shapes. We are also cutting a butterfly using symmetr

Hello to all you returning Lincoln families and to all you new Lincoln families. I am so excited for the new school year and to be able to share my love of art with all of your children. I hope you all had a wonderful summer and were able to rest a little. My families summer was a good mix of fun and rest. I was able to take my oldest kiddo to Chicago to look at colleges. A little sad and scary for me but very exciting for her. While we were there, I was able to go to the Art Institute of Chicago. It was amazing. I discovered some really interesting things about my favorite artist Georgia O'Keeffe and was able to see her beautiful Sky Above Clouds and now I'm working on a project that I can do with your first graders. Opal with Seurat's A Sunday on La Grande Jatte This is the beginning of my fourth year teaching art at Lincoln and I feel very blessed to be a part of this amazing community. I will do my best to keep you all updated on our class projects and share some

4th Quarter!

Welcome back to school. I hope everyone had an amazing break. It was a little short but definitely needed in the Buehler household. We are back to work and arting hard in the classroom. In Kindergarten, we are working on patterns and lines. We are studying Matisse's Purple Robe and Anemones. His use of patterns and line are brilliant. We are creating our own beautiful version using lines and patterns and we will be finishing them off with vibrant colors of oil pastels. We will then draw the Eiffel tower and get to do some more water color. In first grade, we are studying Monet. For the first Monet project, we are discussing one point perspectives and studying his Tulips in Holland. We are recreating a version of tulips using a ruler. We will be finishing this project with beautiful oil pastels. We will be throwing some Georgia O'Keeffe in the middle and observing her flower paintings. We will be making a poppy flower that will be gorgeous! In second grade, we are learning

I hope everyone had a wonderful break and that you are all well rested. In kindergarten, we will be reviewing line by studying Pablo Picasso's line animals. We will then draw Picasso's Dove of Peace. We will also focus on primary colors using crayons and watercolor to finish. In first grade, we will be reviewing shapes. We are going to draw 3-D shapes and create a shape stack. In second grade, we will be revisiting Paul Klee and studying and reproducing his work Senecio. It will be a review of lines and color. I am excited to start this quarter strong and get your artists prepared for the art show!
