4th Quarter!

Welcome back to school. I hope everyone had an amazing break. It was a little short but definitely needed in the Buehler household.

We are back to work and arting hard in the classroom. In Kindergarten, we are working on patterns and lines. We are studying Matisse's Purple Robe and Anemones. His use of patterns and line are brilliant. We are creating our own beautiful version using lines and patterns and we will be finishing them off with vibrant colors of oil pastels. We will then draw the Eiffel tower and get to do some more water color.

In first grade, we are studying Monet. For the first Monet project, we are discussing one point perspectives and studying his Tulips in Holland. We are recreating a version of tulips using a ruler. We will be finishing this project with beautiful oil pastels. We will be throwing some Georgia O'Keeffe in the middle and observing her flower paintings. We will be making a poppy flower that will be gorgeous!

In second grade, we are learning abou…

Welcome Back!

Hello Families! Welcome back to the third quarter. I can't thank you all enough for your generous gifts. I am working on thank you notes to give to your sweet kiddos. I hope everyone had a wonderful break and that you are all well rested.

In kindergarten, we will be reviewing line by studying Pablo Picasso's line animals. We will then draw Picasso's Dove of Peace. We will also focus on primary colors using crayons and watercolor to finish.

In first grade, we will be reviewing shapes. We are going to draw 3-D shapes and create a shape stack.

In second grade, we will be revisiting Paul Klee and studying and reproducing his work Senecio. It will be a review of lines and color.

I am excited to start this quarter strong and get your artists prepared for the art show!

Nutcracker Season

I hope everyone had a restful Thanksgiving. I got to spend some fun time in the Colorado mountains with my family and friends.

We are finishing this semester with our nutcrackers. This is one of my all time favorite projects. Kinder through second grade is working hard at mastering their rulers for beautiful straight edges. We talked about the popularity of the nutcracker through the years, origin of the nutcracker, the book and the ballet. We are drawing them, coloring them and cutting them out. Students will get to bring their pictures home before the semester ends.

Second quarter!!

We have been so busy creating in the art room.

In Kindergarten, we are learning about the element of value. We talked about contrasting colors (say it in a very deep dramatic voice): black and white. We painted a cute picture using only white paint on black paper. We then added details using a black sharpie. We also got to experiment with charcoal. So messy and so fun. We are currently painting hues, tints and shades. We will be creating value ice cream cones. The fun is in mixing the paint to the right shade.

In First grade, we are learning about the element of texture. Students got to explore the art room and find different textures. We then drew a feather and tried to make it look soft and feathery. We talked about the artist Albrecht Durer and his piece The Hare. We then drew the cutest bunnies you have ever seen and gave them furry texture using small lines and different colors of pencils. Next week we will start our sea habitats and create a textured landscape.

In Second grade, …

Our portfolios are growing

Creating is occurring in the art room. We have been having a lot of fun in art these past few weeks. We even have some art work hanging in the front reception area.

In kindergarten, we have just finished up our Matisse Goldfish. They are vibrant! We are now talking about Monet and are working on our water landscapes. We also have started a spiderweb using lines and shapes on our rotating Wednesday. In full day, we have learned about Kandinsky and his concentric circles. We are using oil pastels and having fun mixing colors in our circles.
In First grade, we finished our beautiful Matisse swans. We are working on our Egyptian art. We have been drawing Queen Nefertiti and King Tut. We will be finishing them up with oil pastels. We will be using our names to create our own cartouche using hieroglyphics.
In second grade, we have finished up our symmetrical vases. We are now studying Matisse's La Gerbe. We are painting paper. And then we will cut organic shapes and place them on a pa…

The Second Week

We are off to great start. We have been busy creating in the art room. And we have even started a few art projects. I am adding the art curriculum map to this post so you can have a preview of what we are working on each semester.

We have been reviewing and learning shapes in kindergarten. Next week in kindergarten, we are continuing to work on our shapes. And we will be painting! We will be looking at Matisse's Goldfish and painting a simple table and goldfish.

In first grade, we have been working on cave art. This next week we will be working on line review. We will be naming lines and creating some fun designs.

In second grade, we are finishing our Paul Klee Cat and Bird pictures. We will be continuing to review shapes and grow our drawing skills.

Welcome to Archway Lincoln K-2 Art. My name is Mrs. Buehler.  This is my third year teaching art at Lincoln. I love art and I love teaching. I am so grateful to get to share my love of art with your students. I started teaching art to my own children and their classes about ten years ago,  when my oldest daughter was in first grade. My oldest is now fifteen and an amazing artist. Art is beautiful and messy. I enjoy watching children grow in their abilities and confidence.
I have four children of my own: two girls (ages 15 and 9) and two boys (ages 13 and 11). They definitely keep me busy. This summer we spent time doing an art camp at our house. It was fun to get to explore different mediums and to do different projects with them.  It also gave me a lot of ideas for art club. We live on a little "farm" and have several animals. I talk about them a ton to the kids because I always have some crazy chicken stories.
