Image
We have been getting creative and messy in the art room! If you haven't sent in an art shirt for your kiddo make sure you do. In kindergarten, we will be learning about Claude Monet and studying his water lilies. We will be taking our shape knowledge and drawing some lilies. We will then talk about cool colors and finish our pictures. In First grade we will be studying Henri Matisse and The Swan. We will take our knowledge of lines and recreate his etching. We will then talk about cool and warm colors and finish our swan picture. In second grade we will continue with our symmetry understanding and make some vases. We will use the blue willow china patterns as inspiration and we will only being using blue to finish our vases.

Getting Creative!

Last week we spent some time talking about the rules of the art room and reviewing some concepts. I was really trying to get a feel of where everyone is art wise.  In Kindergarten, we read Harold and The Purple Crayon and drew shape rockets. The kinders did awesome! This week we are drawing spiderwebs and we will get to watercolor them next week. The webs help me to teach direction: horizontal, vertical and diagonal.  In first grade we reviewed lines and created line lions. We made up some fun lines and gave our lions a crazy line mane. This week we are talking about the earliest art that was found in a cave in France. We will talk about how early man did not have a written language and instead of words they used drawings to communicate their daily lives. We will be choosing an animal and we will draw it together as a class. We will then turn out the lights and pretend we are drawing in cave to finish our projects. If you have not sent in an art shirt yet, please do as we will be using

I am so excited to get to know new friends and visit with old ones this year. So much has changed over the last year and I can't wait to catch up with you all. My name is Mrs. Buehler and I teach art to kinder through second grade. Come October, I will have been teaching at Archway Lincoln for a full 5 years and will be starting my 6th year. I have a degree in Chemical Engineering but I have loved art since I was a little kiddo myself. I have four kids: Opal (18), Walker (16), Carson (14) and Lala (12). It is going to be a little sad in our house because Opal Graduated and is heading to college. Both my boys play football for their high school and Lala keeps us busy with club soccer. This summer we took a little trip up to Utah and did some hiking. We also spent a lot of time at the river paddle boarding and kayaking.  Opal on her graduation day Walker, Carson, Lala and Opal at the salt caves My family hiking This year in art I will be posting updates here when we start new projec

Hello Archway Lincoln Families! My name is Mrs. Buehler. This will be my fifth year teaching art at Lincoln. I have four children of my own who I have been teaching art to since they were little: Opal (17), Walker (15), Carson (13) and Delilah (11). We have spent the summer tie-dying shirts, bleaching shirts, painting, watching lots of TV, reading, swimming, hiking, fishing and taking care of our animals. I like to refer to myself as a fake farmer. We have lots of chickens, bunnies, two dogs and a pig. I always have a ton of funny stories to share with the kids about life on our farm. I am so grateful to be sharing my love of art with your children. I am very excited to begin teaching art this school year. Although this year is going to look a little different, we are still going to have a lot of fun learning and creating in the art room. I have a lot of fun lessons planned for your scholars to do at home and in school.

Quarter 4

Dear Families,  I know that being out of school can be hard on the children and the parents. I have a few of my own that are going a little crazy with cabin fever. So I wanted to share a few free websites that can keep your children using their creativity and help them work on some art skills as well. We all Love Mo Willems and Elephant and Piggy and of course the pigeon. He is offering a lunch with Mo drawing class every week day. There are twelve museums (mostly art) offering free virtual tours. And last but not least is a website where you can download masterpieces for your children to color. If you need anymore ideas for creativity, please don't hesitate to email me. I can offer some fun drawing prompts to keep your kids art skills sharp. And I would love to see what they are working on. Thank you, Mrs. Buehler Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems https://www.kennedy-center.org/mowillems?fbclid=IwAR3Vl2TK1j4WGxuVpyFEKLgmGXLzokbtv8GQhxQlkP4vjTFM_Waz8DlL

Quarter 3

Quarter 3 tends to be the busiest time in the art room. We have so many projects going on in each class. Everyone seems to be comfortable trying new media and new projects. Most everyone is comfortable in the art room and using supplies and cleaning up. In Kindergarten we have been studying Picasso and his line animals. We have been drawing and have just started painting our Doves of Peace. We will be moving on to american symbols and we will be drawing the statue of liberty. Another fun painting project. In First Grade we have been studying Cezanne's Apples and Oranges. Turning simple shapes into everyday objects. We have been drawing a fancy bowl and adding our apples and oranges. We are painting with tempera and water color and will be finishing the project with oil pastels. We will next be talking about some of Monet's paintings and recreating a landscape using soft pastels. In Second Grade we are starting our Starry Starry Night. We are breaking it into three section

Quarter 2!

Quarter 2 is off to a strong start. We have been busy learning about new elements and doing our best to keep using our knowledge of the elements of art that we have already studied. Kindergarten has been studying contrasting colors, most specifically black and white. We read Kitten's First Full Moon and are working on drawing kitten and the moon. We are going to paint our pictures using black and white. We will then talk about value and mix different shades of grey to add a little extra detail to our pictures. In first grade we have moved on to texture. Texture is one of the hardest things for children to get. It takes time and patience. But your kids have been doing an exceptional job of exhibiting perseverance. We looked at Albrecht Durer's Hare . It shows great examples of texture using line and color. We drew a rabbit and are in the process of drawing and adding texture using line and color. In second grade we looked at the Parthenon and discussed the
