Off to a great start!!!

For the first few weeks of the quarter, I will be assessing everyone's ability. I like to get a good idea of where we are starting so I can see where we are going.

In kindergarten, I am looking to see how your child holds a pencil, understands lines and colors, and follows directions. We will be reading Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson. We will be using pre-cut shapes to create pictures. We will also be drawing a rocket ship using shapes and crayons.

In First Grade, we jumped right into our Lascaux Cave drawings. I read The First Drawing by Mordicai Gerstein. It has stunning visuals and a fun description of what it might have been like to create the first drawing. We then created a story using pictures and images. We will be recreating an animal and finishing our project with paint and chalk pastels.

In Second Grade, we are studying symmetry. The students have been drawing lines of symmetry on different shapes. We are also cutting a butterfly using symmetry and will decorate it. We are finishing our symmetry lesson creating a vase and decorating it using the style of a Blue Willow China Pattern. We will be studying color value as well and will only be using the color blue.
